GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONGKONG. 8th January, 1937.
SVED
Sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge
the receipt of your despatch No.454 dated the 10 3rd December, 1936, on the subject of the Royal
Patronage of the Hong Kong University and to
enquire whether you could see your way to
petition His present Majesty on the University's
behalf for the bestowal of His Majesty's
patronage. The technically correct course
would, I suppose, be for the Court to supplicate
again by formal Resolution, but in all the
circumstances I would prefer if possible to
avoid convening the Court for this purpose,
and there is no other business which would
warrant its convention in ordinary session
for some months to come.
I have the honour to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient, humble servant,
Caldecot
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
W.G.A. ORMSBY-GORE, P.C., M.P.,
